Woollahra Golf Club has been part of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs for nearly a century. The idea for a local course first emerged in 1927 when Woollahra’s Town Clerk, John Lough, proposed creating a golf club for the community. After several years of planning and development, the course officially welcomed its first players on 11 April 1932, marking the beginning of a long and rich sporting tradition

In its early years, the club operated with limited weekend tee times and a modest clubhouse space at Grimley Pavilion near Woollahra Oval. The club’s leadership included notable Australian political figures such as Sir Eric Harrison and the Hon. John Watson, both of whom played key roles in shaping its direction.

A major milestone arrived in 1960 when Woollahra Golf Club assumed full management of the course. This transition allowed the club to modernise and reshape its layout under the guidance of designer Prosper Ellis. From that point forward, Woollahra evolved from a small local facility into one of Sydney’s most respected 9-hole courses.

Woollahra Golf Club values active participation both on and off the course. Members contribute ideas, join committees, and volunteer their time to help the club grow. Gardening groups, match committees, social event teams and many others play an important part in maintaining the club’s warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Today, Woollahra Golf Club continues to thrive as a hub for golf enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. The club offers regular competitions, coaching programs, social events and family-friendly activities that foster camaraderie among members.
